A Bit About Tolley!
Once Tolley gets to know you, she is an absolute sweetheart. When we got Tolley, she came with a VERY social gelding. He is not afraid to demand attention. At first, he would push his way to see us and Tolley was slightly more reserved. However, her personality is really starting to shine through.
According to her previous owner, Tolley is about 10 years old. When looking at her teeth, compared to Aging Horse By Teeth: FAQ – RVO Vet Corner Files and our Veterinarian's opinion, she lines right up with being approximately 10 years old. When checking her teeth, she let me put my hands all in and around her mouth. She is very easy going, making her a great option for a family. She has an unknown background; however, she passed the ADMS "Inspection Form" to register her ADR. Paperwork is being sent in for ADR Registation. We will also be registering her with ACOSA. Even with her pedigree being unknown, she will still be able to show at NMDA and ACOSA Sanctioned Shows.
Tolley is very well mannered. She picks up her hooves with ease. She leads great, once she gets to know you. If she is not comfortable with you, you just have to talk her through and take your time. She might be a little hesitant at first, but she has never pulled away. She gets better and better, with each day. She was just body clipped the other day. Before being clipped, she was washed. She wiggled around for a couple of minutes but then stood great. I wouldn't be surprised if she's never had a bath before. When it came to body clipping, she stayed still and let me clip her faster than some of our show donkeys do. Today (9/5/2025) was our first day trying obstacles. She went over small and large bridges, a teeter totter, and a sliding bridge. We were amazed by how fast she was trying all of the obstacles. If you are patient and just give her a little bit of time, she is extremely willing to learn.
Tolley is 33" tall, making her a great height for driving. I decided that I would start teaching her to drive. Within 45 minutes, I had Tolley ground driving, then walking on a lead with a cart behind her, and then I got in the cart and drove her. I typically would NOT move this fast with a donkey. Her behavior was so calm that I just kept moving forward. She did absolutely phenomenal. She also stood perfectly still for harnessing, hooking up, unhooking, and unharnessing. Today (9/5/2025) was my second time driving her. She was once again an absolute angel. She is definitely a "slow and steady" kinda gal. She will trot, with encouragement, but is very happy to just go for a stroll. I could see her being a great jennet for a family wanting a slower paced, relaxing drive.
If you are interested in Tolley, please let us know. She is put together beautifully, with wide back legs, an even bite, and a drafty build. We will require that she goes to a home that already has or will be getting another donkey - jennet or gelding. Someone will be receiving a very sweet, nice jennet. She can be sold with Willie, who she came with.
